The Austin
Independent School District (AISD) hired Tekoa Housing Advisors to help design
and implement an affordable housing strategy for entry-level teachers and
staff. New teachers and staff are challenged to find affordable homes and
apartments in the popular city, motivating the school district to help expand
employees' housing options as a way to recruit and retain quality teachers.
To meet the immediate housing needs of employees of
AISD, Tekoa Housing Advisors designed and implemented a discount rental housing
program with a national property management firm, which offers reduced rents
and deposits for AISD teachers and employees at more than 15 apartment complexes
throughout the region. Tekoa Housing Advisors is also working with AISD officials
to create new housing for entry-level teachers, staff and other working families
in Austin.
